Chapter 6 – Stairway To Heaven (partial chapter)

Posted By on June 19, 2009

“Cookie,” I declared, “it’s time we bought a motorhome.”

My wife walked over, peered into my eyes and sniffed my breath. “Well, that’s a relief,” she said. “For a minute there I thought you’d taken on some new habits.” She went back to cooking supper. “Why in the world would you want a motorhome?”

“Well, you’re always complaining that we never go camping,” I said. “And with my back the way it is, you know I can’t survive in a tent.”

Cookie raised an eyebrow. “And you think our marriage can survive an RV?”

“You just watch!” I rubbed my hands together. “We’ll have so many family outings, you’ll wonder why we didn’t do this years ago.”

So I got my wish…sort of. Cookie had a few ground rules. “But we’ll never find a decent RV for under $5,000.00!” I protested.

She was firm. “There’s no sense spending a fortune on a motorhome until we know if we like it. Besides, you’re a mechanic; you can fix it up.”

“But that defeats the whole purpose of taking time off,” I argued. “I don’t want to spend my entire vacation fixing things!”

Cookie flashed her winsome smile. “Right. So tell me again why you want an RV?”
